So, we all think of milestones as key defining moments in our lives.
And honestly, that is a true description of what a milestone is.
Big milestones are like when your firstborn child goes to kindergarten. Or when you graduate high school, or when you get married, or engaged, or have your first child or even your third child.
Those are all huge milestones that deserve heavy documentation in our lifetime,
but what about the little milestones?
That Thursday afternoon at the community pool in the middle of July, teaching your kiddos how to play Marco Polo for the first time and laughing as you watch them doggy paddle around in their arm floaties. Is anybody taking pictures of that moment?
Or maybe you brought your kids to the dollar store so that they could pick out a little birthday gift for their dad. You see all of the wonder in their eyes at all the things they could possibly give, and it makes you filled with joy to think of how you’re teaching your kids the gift of giving. Who is documenting that moment?
The only way we might ever really remember those sweet perfect moments are in our memories.
Sometimes, especially as moms, we will have pictures on our phones from those every day little moments, but rarely any of us exploring those days in those moments with our kiddos or with our spouses. Someone’s smiles and laughs are missing from the picture or video. YOURS. Mom's.
If you don’t take many pictures, you should. Those moments are fleeting and memories don’t always last forever, but pictures can.
To sum things up, you don’t need a highly special occasion or a life defining milestone to document your family growth.
Grab the moment that you feel is right and take it to document it.
Don’t be afraid to ask your photographer for an adventure instead of just a typical session!
If they’re a photographer like me, your sessions are always first an adventure for memories.
Much love, Lexi
